Little Carrousel almost AFFO

The final stitches have been made, I tried to use up all left over fabric to assemble the back of the quilt. All is left now are some small scraps ;) Yeah!!

the back all pieced together

And I finally used the "Heat Press batting together" I bought ages ago in Paducah.  It works perfectly for this small quilt.

ironing on the cloth tape to fuse the batting

look at that!

my new friend ;)
All I have to do now is the quilting. I will use my machine, because with all the seams it will be hard to hand quilt my little Carrousel.
Françoise has already started the new mystery this month called: Mysterie Sweet Hearts. But I still need some time to finish this one. And my dear Françoise: I won't need the "red de restjes" workshop as you can see looking at the pictures ;)

Happy Quilting,

Mystery part 10

After a busy time because of the quilt show in Deventer, I almost forgot what my sewing machine looked like....
But I made today into a quilt-day and finished the top of the mystery quilt Little Carrousel by Françoise Maarse.

Now I can show the result to the "Vughtse Stucjes" quilt bee tonight at my house.
Still have to sew the mitered corners, but I will manage before 8pm.....

Homework.......done!!

Little Carrousel
Last Friday we got together for the 9th part of the mystery by Françoise. It was the first time we met after she closed her shop in Den Bosch.  So we came to her 'atelier' at her home.
Today I sewed all the parts of the little Carrousel together, so my homework for summer is done!!
Look how cute the carrousel turns out with the horse, carriage and elephant.
Very eager to find out what will happen in the borders....
For that I will, unfortunately, have to wait a while.
But I have enough little projects to keep myself busy.

Enjoy summer,

Mystery part 7

In between working in the garden and dusting (outside of the house is being painted) I managed to get started with part 7 of the little mystery.
Next week we will already get the next part, so I will have to do some gardening inside.

part 7

Pretty little flowers and one with a special ribbon for Françoise.

Camelot on the go

our home for the coming 10 days

Tomorrow we will go camping for a few days. Via Luxembourg is the North-Eastern part of France our destination.  Hopefully it will be dry and a little bit warmer, so we can go for a hike.
But in case I am stuck inside, I will bring along my camelot blocks 3 and 4 to work on. I already started the third block and am loving it! Hand piecing is one of the most relaxing things to do.

I will miss part 7 of the mystery in the Quilterij, but be back just in time to visit the Open European Quilt Championships in Veldhoven with a dear friend.

First Quilt Bee at my new home

Last night our quilt bee got together in my new home for the first time. Finally I have enough light and no more stuff on the dining room table and was ready to receive the ladies. We did some sewing, quilting and had a look at my sewing room.
For me this group is very important, because I am new in town. It gives me the feeling of being part of something special, sharing the passion for fabric and quilting.
I was so excited that I forgot to take pictures!! Here are some pictures from the day after......

Here some pictures of the show and tell in my sewing room.

Here some pictures of the dining room where we had a very productive and entertaining quilt bee.
We even might have found ourselves a name.....

Mystery part 5 Little Carrousel

I started working on part 5 of the mystery quilt.
It's lots of fun. Will have to add some beading to give it the same bling as the other stitchery.

Mystery part 5

Last week it was time to go to de Quilterij in Den Bosch for part 5 of the mystery quilt. I am only making the 'Little Carrousel' and not the full size version. Just enough work to be able to finish in time for the next part. I love the design so far and wonder what the end result will look like. But I have to be patient and trust Françoise.

part 5

Part 5 is another stitchery. To trace the little horse I had to wait until the sun was strong enough. For tracing the pattern I use the frixion ballpen from Pilot. Those were a big hit in the US when I lived there. I bought a red, blue and black one. Removable by ironing, very easy to use.

catching up

I had some catching up to do. I missed part 3 of the mystery quilt project, because I was traveling the beginning of January. And the part 4 lesson was already planned for the end of January! But I finished both today and am looking forward to the next meeting in de Quilterij in Den Bosch. It is still a big surprise how all the blocks will fit together, but it is fun working on them.

part 3
Now it is time to start building houses, no excuse of freezing temperatures any more!!

See you later,

Friends all over the world

While unpacking boxes and decorating my new sewing room I come across lots of little things that remind me of my friends from different times and places. The tiny little tea set Carmen bought for me when I left Shanghai, the box with pictures of Joke's paintings made by Hilde for our 25th wedding anniversary, the quilt I received in Lincolnshire last summer before returning to the Netherlands to name a few.

It slows me down, seeing all those items. I see faces, hear voices and remember the fun things we did together.
The room is still a mess, some plugs are not fitting in the sockets and I need more shelves. But when I am between the boxes and fabrics, I feel warm and at home.

Two weeks ago Hilde came to visit. She was our first official guest in our new house. She helped me unpack a few boxes and arranging my fabrics in the drawers. It was fun seeing her again and she spoiled me with 2 handmade gifts.

Now I have to work hard to catch up with my mystery from de Quilterij.

So see you later!!

How many projects will fit in one basket...

On the dining room table there is an old basket. It comes from my husbands aunt, lovely old fashioned with a plastic lined base inside.  In there I put the projects that I am currently working on.
After I moved in to our temporary home I started working on the family tree quilt for my son. I have 7 blocks sewn together and the other 11 in bags sorted out, ready to go.
Second layer in my basket is the stitchery teapot blocks with all the fabrics I selected and got from my friend. A hand work project, maybe I will take it along on our trip to Berlin next week.
And then there comes a third layer.....Last Saturday I went to the Quilterij and signed up for the Mystery Quilt Project 2011-2012 called Carrousel, starting first week in November. I picked purples, greens and reds. The kit comes in a nice box together with embroidery thread. I decided to make the small version (75x100cm). Can't wait to start working on it, but most of all meeting the other ladies that will work on this project for the coming year. Meeting other quilters through a quilt class is the best way to start feeling at home where ever you live. I miss all my quilt friends in Singapore, Shanghai and Chicago a lot. Don't want and cannot replace them, but just want to add some friends to my list.

Happy quilting,
Rose-Anne
